After 15 years at the helm of one of Australia’s most successful fashion labels, Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke have walked away from their amazing company, Sass and Bide.
Best friends since meeting at school, Middelton and Clarke started out selling jeans and denim wear at London’s Portobello Market. Mega Australian retailer Myer bought a 65% stake in the company in 2011 and the leading ladies have been slowly transitioning themselves out of the business with the final stake being purchased last year.
Sass & Bide have now appointed Anthony Cuthbertson as design director, who has most recently consulted for Victoria Beckham and Mulberry and previously worked for David Lawrence, Ralph Lauren, MaxMara and Joseph, while Bonnie O’Hare will serve as art director.
I am hoping that those now at the helm will continue to bring the quirky, classy, well cut designs that I have loved for a long time.
It will be interesting to follow the pursuits of Middleton and Clarke, as it’s hard to imagine such creative spirits to be resting their design ideas for long.
We headed to the Tannery yesterday to have a squizz in the shops and enjoy the sunshine, while having a lovely lunch in the courtyard of The Brewery. Their wood fired pizza is delicious; we had the Horatane which is generously covered in blue cheese, pear, thyme and smoked bacon on an amazing crispy base.
The Tannery has brought life to a very industrialised area of Christchurch. I love how many interesting and well respected retailers have got on board with this development and it is wonderful to see the car park full, meaning Cantabrians are keen to support such ventures.
On the way home we stopped in front of a warehouse garage door so Eli could quickly snap these pics of what I wore.
