One of the latest hair trends that seems to be taking over my instagram feed is the half up top knot or bun. I tried it but didn’t think it did me any favours, so resorted to my regular top-knot for that never fail, bad hair day, rescue remedy. Although the ladies below are certainly looking super stylish so I might have to give it another crack!
Here are some pics for your Friday perusal – does it inspire you? Have you tried it? What do you think?!
Have a fabulous weekend everyone x
That I most certainly was when I finally booked an appointment at Beauty at the Tannery to use the very generous voucher my brother and sister in-law gave me for my birthday.
As soon as you walk in you immediately feel like an A-Lister; the modern, fresh interior oozes style and sophistication and the staff are genuinely kind and very professional. After being checked in I was led through to the lounge area before being shown to the changing area where I was given a locker and changed into a lush white robe and spa slippers. There is a shower for clients to use before or after a treatment which is a great idea, especially if you have somewhere to be after a massage that leaves you a little oily.
While waiting for my treatment (after filling in the obligatory new client paperwork) I enjoyed a glass of water infused with mint, orange and raspberries while catching up on the latest and best fashion and lifestyle mags in the lounge area – you’d be forgiven for thinking you were actually in someones plush living room. After a short wait – I could have quite happily sat there for longer! – I was introduced to the lovely Sarah who would be completing my treatment. I was lucky enough to be enjoying Beauty at the Tannery’s signature treatment, Grace Yourself. This was 90 minutes of pure bliss! A full body massage with exfoliation as well as a facial where I was wrapped up a little like a mummy.
Once my treatment was complete I enjoyed a delicious herbal tea (you can choose from a variety of flavours) and special fortune telling chocolate! My skin felt AMAZING and I was incredibly relaxed and rejuvenated. So much so that I am now cheating on my regular beautician and going to Beauty at the Tannery for facials every two months!!
I have been lucky enough to experience some beautiful spas in the UK and Beauty at the Tannery is right up there with the best of them. It is by far the most impressive in Christchurch and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Refinery29 has this fab slideshow illustrating how to achieve these easy up-dos. I’m off to get my fringe trimmed today but I’m thinking I need to add the bun and slick ponytail to my repertoire.
The more Axel grows the more I’m becoming resigned to the fact that long hair and babies don’t really work and that the top knot has become my best friend. I’m still unsure as to whether I want to chop it off to the length that my fabulous hairdresser Lucy describes as a Lob – a long bob. Or, do I continue to go into battle with my sons fingers on the odd occasion when I actually have the time to ‘do’ my do.
If I decide to go the route of the Lob then this feature from Marie Claire shows how the medium length hair style is actually the length of choice for many celebrities.
After the stress of the flooding, being 36 weeks pregnant and standing on my feet for most of the day teaching, I have been feeling exhausted when I get home in the evening – only two more days of work though which is pretty exciting and also a little scary!!!
Last night I ran a bath and enjoyed a soak (it was actually pretty tricky to get in and out of our old claw foot bath!) to try and relax a little. Nothing beats lighting a few candles and letting the fragrant bubbles melt away any aches and pains.
I’ve rounded up a few delicious treats that would help encourage bathing bliss…
1. Rose scented Diptique candle – Mecca Cosmetica
2. Aurora Spa Rituals Grapefruit and Seaweed Invigorating Body Cleanser – Mecca Cosmetica
3. Cinnamon Buns Bubble Bath – Philosophy
4. Dead Sea Bath Salt Set – Herbivore Botanicals – Etsy
5. Twilight lavender scented bath bomb – Lush
6. Shea Butter Ultra Rich Body Scrub – L’Occitane
